StartUP PGH Highlighting Pittsburgh as a Global Hub for AI, Robotics, Technology, Life Sciences, and Entrepreneurship
Pittsburgh’s startup, research, and investment communities are coming together this week for the inaugural StartUp PGH, a region-wide showcase of the people and the ideas strengthening the city’s position as a leading hub for AI, robotics, life sciences technology and entrepreneurship.
Running Sept. 14-18, StartUP PGH aligns flagship events from 15 anchor organizations including Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), Innovation Works, Pittsburgh Robotics Network (PRN), Pittsburgh Life Sciences Alliance, PA Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), Allegheny County, City of Pittsburgh, AI Strike Team, EXPLore Pittsburgh Tech Week, InnovatePGH, LifeX, Pittsburgh Technology Council, and Pittsburgh Tomorrow. The result? A unified, high-impact regional showcase.
Driven by strategic public-private alignment, world-class research institutions, and rapid commercialization, Pittsburgh is proving that collaboration is its primary competitive advantage. With $2.29 billion in venture funding raised in 2025 – the third-highest annual total on record – more than 250 active AI and robotics companies, and seven homegrown billion-dollar unicorns, Pittsburgh has established itself as an international epicenter where advanced technology is actively scaled and commercialized.
StartUP PGH builds directly upon the framework established by the Fall 2025 Carnegie Mellon University Startup Week, which attracted over 2,000 participants and more than 200 out-of-market investors and corporate partners. By pooling collective marketing, networks, and programming into one synchronized week, StartUP PGH lowers friction for external companies evaluating site selection and expansion, while offering venture capital firms direct access to an active, investable pipeline.
Beyond business attraction, StartUP PGH is designed as an inclusive, community-wide asset. Student showcases, startup job fairs, and open founder sessions provide early-stage builders and elite technical talent direct access to capital and corporate decision-makers, helping keep the nation’s top minds in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
