Matt Smith – chief growth officer at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, one of the country’s premier civic leadership organizations, and its economic development affiliate, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, which Smith oversees – offers these reactions to the news.

(PITTSBURGH – May 1, 2023) –“We are thrilled to welcome Re: Build Manufacturing to the Pittsburgh region – namely the cities of Arnold and New Kensington in Westmoreland County. Re: Build is bringing to our region both the vision and capacity that can accomplish something truly transformational for manufacturing and a new generation of manufacturers – not only in our region, but across the state and the country.

“Manufacturing has deep roots in southwestern Pennsylvania. The products we made here were pivotal to the building of the modern world. This investment honors that legacy but puts a focus on the future of manufacturing, which is happening now in the Pittsburgh region.  We look forward to the new opportunities Re: Build will spark – leveraging innovative technologies and new techniques – for the industry and the significant and exciting employment it will create for people here.”

“The continuous transformation of this region is powered by public-private partnership.  The spirit of collaboration and cooperation here has not wavered for nearly 80 years – always focused on working together to shape the brightest future for the Pittsburgh region and its people.”

“Securing a Re: Build manufacturing hub in southwestern Pennsylvania is the latest example of the impact of such partnership.  This investment further cements our region’s – and Pennsylvania’s position – as a manufacturing powerhouse that can compete nationally and globally.  It will also create new and exciting opportunities for the people of our region to be an essential part of this future-of-manufacturing movement.

“For the collaboration that made this possible, I wish to thank all the public officials whose support helped to land this win for Westmoreland County and our entire region, as well as a host of regional institutions and organizations that have helped move this project over the goal line.  Together, we are creating the future of manufacturing not only for our region, but for the world.”
